Omusugu Gerald is a 10-year-old boy and the second of six children. Life has never been easy for Gerald and his siblings. They once lived in Tororo with their parents, but their father struggled with alcohol, and their mother worked as a casual laborer to support the family.

One day, while she was working in someone’s garden, Gerald’s mother received the devastating news that her husband had passed away. With no means to provide for all her children alone, she took them to their paternal grandparents before returning to her parents’ home in Bukatuube, Mayuge District.

Years later, her sister invited her to Omoolo Village for work. There, she met another casual laborer, and together they tried to make ends meet. But their earnings were barely enough for food, leaving nothing for school fees.

Determined to learn, Gerald took matters into his own hands. He works by digging for people and burning charcoal to earn money for tuition, school supplies, and even meals. His determination is remarkable—and it’s heartening that the team from Foundation Christian Schools found him and are now helping him pursue the education he longs for.
